Hi Ryan,
I recently ended up in Dallas on sudden evacuation from Hurricane Ike, and was thrilled to discover you guys were opening the season with an absolute favorite, Mahler 5. I had never heard it live before, and had never seen the DSO - I didn't realize what an experience it would be! And what a balm to the soul, after the total havoc and uncertainty of evacuating and having to leave your home behind.
Your incredible playing and that of the orchestra, plus van Zweden's daring interpretation, and the stunning hall, everything made it such an unforgettable concert. The power and depth of your tone floored me, this burnished golden torch alight over the orchestra, shining brightly even above the height of Mahler's fray. Breathtaking. I wish there were a recording. I also saw that week the world premiere of the Stucky piece, which you guys just nailed, it was gorgeous!
I only learned of your bio at landing here, the Canadian Brass is a favorite of mine and I look forward to looking up your work with them and as soloist. Texas is truly lucky to be blessed with such an amazing musician, and I wish you all the best as principal in Dallas...hope to see you guys again soon!

Ryan,
I recently attended the Brass Band of Battle Creek Concert down at Millenium Park in Chicago last month and just wanted to let you know how incredible you sounded on soprano. You make it look so effortless yet sound so pure, precise, and full. Hearing you play both the last movement of Pictures as well as the last movement of Tchaik 4 was truly inspirational and motivational. Just like all the other horns you play, it really shows your versatility and talent as a performer. I have recently started playing soprano myself here in Chicago in a brass band. I have some serious practicing to do! Best of luck in Dallas and I hope to hear you again up in Chicago.

We've just finished listening to your CD again. Whenever I listen to it I'm reminded of that very cold Jan. Sun. in Green Bay. It was the day that the Packers lost to the Giants in the NFC championship game, probably Brett Favre's last game ever, and a very difficult loss for Packer fans. We attended both the concert and the game. As we were leaving the game I menioned to my husband that I didn't feel really sad about the loss because that beautiful music was still in my head. For the cost of the game, even to season ticket holders, the concert was so very much more enjoyable, and made the loss to the Giants seem insignificant when we thought about the beautiful music you shared with us. In fact, we enjoyed one of your CD's on our way home from the game. Please return to Green Bay often! KK P. S. I don't even like organ music--my husband does!

If I could spell correctly I'd be a happy man! I meant "principal" trumpet, not "principle" trumpet.

Hi, Ryan...You are so absoultely fabulous I cannot think of words to describe you !!! I play viola in the San Juan Symphony, and also do a lot of amateur trumpet playing in various locations in the 4 Corners area. The concerts of the Feb. 16-17 weekend were beyond belief. I especially enjoyed your picc playing, and can really appreciate it as I play it a little (a very dangerous thing)when the occasion arises. Everyone in the SJSO really enjoyed playing with you - you are a ton of fun !!!!

Ryan, 15 years ago, in a quintet recital at a church across the street from Severance Hall, your picc trumpet was temporarily inoperable in the middle of the Lincoln Portrait. When most of us would panic, you seemed pleasantly disturbed to have to play high E's and F's on your Bb horn... One of many fond memories from our brief times together. Thank you for all of your instruction during my high school years. I'm so proud of you! You always were a fantastic musician, mentor and a man of integrity. God Bless You. Jason
