After successfully rebuilding the trumpet studio at Oberlin Conservatory as Assistant Professor of Trumpet, Ryan is still active in education partnering with Yamaha Instruments. He continues to give residencies and master classes around the country, as well as coaching brass sections with youth orchestras and wind ensembles.

3-Day Residency Information

Day 1
  • Open master class (1 hour) for all brass students
  • Rehearsal with student/faculty ensembles for concert (1-2 hours)
  • Coaching student chamber ensemble (1 hour)
  • Private lessons for all brass students or trumpet class (max 3-4 hours)

 

Day 2
  • Same as Day 1

 

Day 3
  • Private lessons (max 1-2 hours)
  • Coaching student chamber ensemble (1 hour)
  • Open brass concert featuring student/faculty groups with Ryan as soloist

Master Classes Information

A master class is hands-on with performances by students. A strong emphasis is placed on performing.

 

Topics include:
  • Practice technique for optimal music making
  • Preparing for a performance or audition
  • How to perform for the audience's eyes and ears while addressing performance anxiety
